A Buffer-Polisher is one of the (first) tool’s that you’ll need to get started. YES, there’s many to chose from, and many different prices. We’ve buffed out MANY boat hulls and buffers from these to stores (Walmart, and Harbor Freight) were well prices, and did the job well. I can recommend a buffer from either of these stores.
My Current Buffer-Polisher was purchased from an automotive paint store. It was well priced has a variable speed control, and at less then $75.00 was a great value, and also does a great job.

A buffing pad is the second item that you’ll need to began buffing out boat hulls.
You need to have a 100% wool buffing pad. Buffing Pads that have (or are) synthetic in them generate heat, and can “burn” (melt) the Gelcoat (finish) on the hull.
Buffing pads connect to the Buffer-Polisher via velcro.

Buffing compound is the 3rd item you’ll need to start bufffing the oxidation off of a boats hull. We use and recoment Aqua-Buff 1000 as the FIRST (and only?) compound to use.
We use, and recomend Aqua-Buff 1000 as the first (and only?) buffing compound that you’ll need.
YES, Aqua-Buff DOES make a compound named Aqua-Buff 2000. It’s our experiance that the Aqua-Buff 2000 is best used for POLISHING, where as Aqua-Buff 1000 is esential for “gelcoat restoration”.
